AFROTC Detachment 730

Please note this is for AFROTC cadets only. The US Government will only issue a clearance to someone who has a need to have the clearance.  If your company has a contract with the Department of Defense to provide classified components to the DoD, then someone in your company has been trained and given the necessary tools to get a clearance for you.  If you are a civilian and need to obtain a security clearance of any sort, please contact your company's Human Resources Office for further instructions.
All non-prior service cadets who have recently contracted or anyone who still needs to complete the SECRET clearance application--located to the right you will find a link to download the Electronic Personnel Security Questionnaire (EPSQ). This program is used to apply for your SECRET security clearance.   A SECRET clearance is required to be commissioned in the United States Air Force. EPSQ is designed to be user friendly. The system includes a thorough help system, an accurate error checking system, and the ability to easily save information as you type.

Please note, there are two types of security clearances SECRET and TOP SECRET. If you are a new cadet, you will apply for a SECRET clearance. Some of our cadets will need to apply for a TOP SECRET clearance after they are given their career selections. You will be using the same version of the ESPQ program to complete your application for both clearances except there are a couple of items you need to do differently, see below.

Attached is a checklist to help you gather information you'll need before filling in the information in ESPQ. You will want to have all of the information listed on the checklist prior to starting the questionnaire.

Once you have completed the questionnaire, email the .zdb file (explained more in the instructions) to TSgt Newell at jdn@pitt.edu. Make sure to keep a copy of your SECRET clearance file (the .zbd file) for future reference, either if you need to reapply due to loss of information or if you need to apply for a TOP SECRET clearance in the future (see below).

Note to Seniors: If you need to apply for a TOP SECRET, you need to have a copy of your SECRET clearance application. If you didn't keep a electronic copy of it (saved it on a disk or stored it on your computer's hard drive), first check with TSgt Newell to see if he might have a copy of it. If not, you'll need to reaccomplish the entire application in ESPQ--using the TOP SECRET Instructions.
